From our Vault collection, this vintage sterling and rough bevel cut sapphire necklace is from India and is truly a show stopper in terms of its deep blue hue and scale. We knew when we found this piece that we had to add it to our procured goods collection.
According to the American Gem Society: "The celestial blue color of this gemstone symbolized heaven and attracted divine favor and wise judgment. Greeks wore sapphire for guidance when seeking answers from the oracle. Buddhists believed that it brought spiritual enlightenment, Hindus used it during worship, and early Christian kings cherished sapphire’s powers of protection by using it in ecclesiastical rings. Classical violet-blue sapphires traditionally came from the Kashmir region of India between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. "
